La Ciudad de Richmond y la organización cultural sin ánimo de lucro Performing Statistics, se han unido para darle a la juventud de Richmond un espacio de contemplación y reflexión en los costados del Ayuntamiento Municipal.

El proyecto multimedios de arte público Constelaciones de Libertad (Freedom Constellations), dirigido por el artista Mark Strandquist, incluye la instalación de dos estandartes enormes en los costados del Ayuntamiento que dan a las calles Marshall y Novena. En ellos figuran dos estudiantes de las Escuelas Públicas de Richmond participantes del programa RISE for Youth (Ta’Dreama McBride y Clyde Walker) y expresan la visión de los jóvenes locales, de un futuro en el cual todos ellos serán libres.

Cuando se instale la exhibición, los retratos de 160 pies (49 metros) de altura colgarán de los costados del Ayuntamiento Municipal. Cuando los visitantes apunten sus teléfonos inteligentes hacia los retratos, una animación de realidad aumentada con audio mostrará los sueños hacia el futuro de esos jóvenes líderes, mientras ellos expresan las inversiones que ellos piensan que mantendrán a sus comunidades libres, saludables y seguras. Los visitantes también podrán escuchar las palabras y voces de varios jóvenes en forma de un poema conjunto: “En un mundo sin prisiones juveniles, camino por las calles y… escucho la felicidad en la comunidad, y me siento a salvo…”.

Esta experiencia motivará a los visitantes a imaginar un mundo en el cual todos los jóvenes se sienten empoderados, libres, escuchados y esperanzados, mientras crecen rodeados del amor y apoyo que necesitan para prosperar.

La instalación de esta exhibición empezará a finales de junio. Los visitantes podrán apreciar Constelaciones de Libertad a partir de julio, y experimentarán la realidad aumentada en la esquina de las calles Marshall y Novena.

“Cubrir los costados del ayuntamiento con retratos interactivos de jóvenes que luchan por hacer de Richmond un mejor lugar es exactamente el tipo de arte público monumental que la ciudad necesita en este momento”, dice Mark Strandquist, artista principal del proyecto y director creativo de Performing Statistics. “A través de la fotografía y la realidad aumentada, Constelaciones de Libertad eleva no sólo a unas voces históricas en particular, sino a una multitud de jóvenes visionarios y poderosos de esta ciudad. Es muy importante que la ciudad brinde plataformas para que todos los jóvenes puedan hablar de sus experiencias, mostrar su liderazgo y compartir con todos nosotros sus sueños de una Richmond más justa, completa y libre. Jamás podremos crear ese futuro si no podemos imaginarlo, ilustrarlo o diseñarlo, y la juventud debe ser parte de ese proceso. Estos jóvenes líderes nos han dado un enorme regalo: nos han compartido un hermoso proyecto de una Richmond en la cual todos los jóvenes tienen el apoyo que se merecen. Espero que podamos usar esto como una oportunidad para escuchar, aprender y encontrar nuevas maneras de involucrar a los jóvenes en todos nuestros esfuerzos por hacer del mundo futuro un lugar mejor”, agregó.

Richmond, Virginia — La Oficina de Transporte y Movilidad Equitativos (OETM, por sus siglas en inglés) ha lanzado su proceso de participación comunitaria con el fin de crear una guía de políticas de transporte. Camino a la Equidad: Guía de Políticas para Richmond Connects articulará el marco de referencia para Richmond Connects, el proceso de planeación de transporte multimodal que se iniciará este otoño.

Esta guía de políticas explicará por qué el plan de transporte necesita enfocarse en la equidad, además de explicar en detalle que quiere decir la Ciudad al hablar de transporte equitativo y establecer la estructura de cómo Richmond planea hacer de la equidad un punto central en las decisiones de planeación de transporte.

La Guía de Políticas Camino a la Equidad reiterará los objetivos de transporte desarrollados en el Plan Maestro y creará el lenguaje que articule los resultados equitativos deseados denominados ‘factores de equidad’. Estos son los resultados que la Ciudad utilizará para evaluar qué tan equitativa es la red de transporte de Richmond.   

En la práctica, al utilizar el marco de referencia desarrollado en la Guía de Políticas Camino a la Equidad, Richmond Connects dará prioridad a las necesidades y recomendará proyectos y programas de transporte para la ciudad. El plan incluirá una serie de recomendaciones de varios planes en torno a lo que los residentes consideran que son las principales necesidades de transporte de la comunidad.

Encuesta

Como parte de este esfuerzo, OETM ha diseñado una encuesta digital para sustentar la guía política y el propio plan de transporte Richmond Connects. Esta encuesta es única en su género y está de acuerdo con la Agenda de Equidad del alcalde, ya que pide a los habitantes de Richmond que evalúen sus experiencias de injusticias sufridas en materia de transporte en el pasado y que expliquen en detalle las barreras que en la actualidad les impiden acceder a las oportunidades.

Tacos por el Transporte

En su búsqueda de participación adicional del público, la Ciudad realizará tres eventos al aire libre ‘Tacos por el Transporte’ que tienen en consideración las precauciones relacionadas con el COVID-19. Los eventos contarán con un equipo de apoyo preparado para guiar a los residentes a lo largo de la encuesta. ¡A cambio de su tiempo, la ciudad proporcionará un vale para tacos gratis de un camión de tacos del lugar (para un máximo de 250 personas en cada evento)!. El primer evento se celebrará el 26 de junio en el Centro Comunitario Calhoun, junto con el Día de Campo en Gilpin que es organizado por la Autoridad de Vivienda y Reconstrucción de Richmond (RRHA). El próximo evento será el 17 de julio en el parque Byrd, y el último evento tendrá lugar junto a la piscina Blackwell el 31 de julio. Todos estos eventos tendrán lugar de 11 a.m. a 3 p.m.

Estos embajadores, junto con los socios regionales en materia de planeación y los representantes de los grupos defensores de la justicia social, ayudarán a dar forma a la guía política.

The City of Richmond was recently recognized as a SolSmart GOLD community for its efforts to make it faster, easier and less expensive for Richmonders to put solar on their homes and businesses.

The city’s solar power initiative is championed by the Office of Sustainability, in furtherance of RVAgreen 2050, the City's equity-centered climate action and resilience initiative to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 45% by 2030, achieve net zero emissions by 2050 and help the community adapt to Richmond's climate impacts of extreme heat, precipitation and flooding.

The city received the GOLD designation after the Office of Sustainability worked with the Permits & Inspections Division of the Planning Department to verify that permits for small residential rooftop solar PV systems can be processed in three days.

Richmond is one of only four localities in Virginia that have received the GOLD level designation from SolSmart, a national program that assists and recognizes localities that foster the growth of strong solar markets in their communities by reducing barriers to going solar.

In 2018, Richmond received a SILVER designation for making changes to become more solar friendly, including clarifying solar related zoning issues and creating a one-stop resource to make it easier and quicker for residents to find information on solar related permits. The city was also a Special Recognition Award winner in Inspections for going above and beyond and earning at least 60% of the total points available in at least one of the eight SolSmart categories.

The city's efforts to advance clean energy and support its RVAgreen 2050 initiative also include partnering with Henrico County and local non-profit Viridiant in the SolarizeRVA program to offer free one-stop, unbiased guidance for Richmond area residents to explore their solar and clean energy options and understand the costs and benefits of solar power systems for their homes.

Local non-profit Viridiant leads the effort to engage residents through community events, webinars, digital and direct engagement in order to provide information and resources about the value, technology and logistics of home solar arrays to ensure that potential solar adopters are fully equipped to make smart decisions for their households. To maximize the value and savings of solar energy, Viridiant also helps residents implement energy efficient strategies in their homes through home energy audits and community education events.

Over the long term, SolarizeRVA aims to bring 1,000 solar roofs to the Richmond region, reduce dependency on nonrenewable resources and provide real savings for area residents. Solar energy saves money and reduces energy dependency, and the switch is more appealing than ever, as the federal tax credit of 26% is set to expire at the end of 2022.

The City of Richmond and cultural organizing nonprofit Performing Statistics have teamed up to give Richmond’s youth a space of reverence and reflection on the sides of Richmond's City Hall.

Freedom Constellations, a multimedia public art project led by artist Mark Strandquist featuring two large banners flanking the Marshall Street and 9th Street sides of City Hall, will include two Richmond Public Schools students involved with RISE for Youth (Ta’Dreama McBride and Clyde Walker) voicing a group of local youth’s vision for a future where all youth are free.

When the exhibit is installed, 160 foot tall portraits will flank City Hall. As visitors hold smartphones up to the portraits, augmented reality animation and audio will display the young leaders’ dreams for the future as they articulate the investments they say will keep the community safe, healthy, and free. They will hear the words and voices of young people in the form of a co-written poem: “In a world without youth prisons. I walk down the streets and… I hear happiness in the community, and I feel safe…”

The experience will ask visitors to imagine a world where every young person feels empowered, free, heard and hopeful, growing up surrounded by the support and love they need to thrive.

Exhibit installation will begin at the end of June. Visitors will be able to experience Freedom Constellations starting in July, with the augmented reality experience located on the corner of 9th Street and Marshall Street.
