Madam Treasurer Nichole R. Armstead

Nichole Richardson Armstead is a purpose-driven multi-hyphenate whose career—spanning public service, finance, wellness coaching, and music—is unified by a singular mission: serving people, elevating lives, and fostering genuine human connection. This mission is deeply rooted in her faith. Nichole made a commitment to devote her life to Christ as a junior in college. She views her faith walk as a personal relationship with Christ, not a religion, and strives to demonstrate Christ's love to all she encounters, believing that our life is our biggest testimony. Furthermore, her commitment to community was instilled through her upbringing as the daughter of former City Councilman Henry W. "Chuck" Richardson, who served the city for nearly 20 years.

As Madame Treasurer for the City of Richmond, she leverages over 19 years in the banking industry and her PMP credentials to champion financial wellness and high-touch customer service. This financial foundation fuels her work to help adults and children achieve their highest potential through the Treasurer’s Office of Financial Empowerment which she launched for the city in 2019. Her commitment extends to mentoring the next generation, providing internships and career readiness tips. Her dedication to community leadership is further demonstrated by her history of previously leading six United Way campaigns, each raising nearly a quarter of a million dollars.

As a Wellness Coach, Nichole brings empathy and understanding to her clients, having navigated her own complex journey of personal growth and well-being. She uses a compassionate and encouraging approach to equip others with practical guidance and hope for their journeys, with an overall focus on total wellness. She and her husband, Stafford Armstead, extend this mission by facilitating healthy relationship sessions utilizing their award-winning curriculum, "For You I Will".

Adding an artistic dimension to her life, Nichole is a gifted vocalist and half of the music duo Hand in Glove. Alongside her husband, they uplift others by sharing their inspirational love story through classic jazz songs with a sprinkle of R&B. Nichole is also a proud mother of three—two teenagers and one young adult.

For Nichole, the demanding balance of these roles is sustained by one thing: connection. As she puts it: "Whether I’m in city hall, facilitating a coaching session or on stage, it’s all about serving people, elevating lives, and creating connections that will reach far beyond my lifetime.”
