DPU Celebrates Drinking Water Week with a Special Tour
City Of Richmond Department of Public Utilities (DPU) and partners throughout the United States will observe Drinking Water Week, a decades-long tradition led by the American Water Works Association. Taking place May 7-13, Drinking Water Week is a celebration recognizing the vital role water plays in everyday life for both water professionals and the communities they serve.
DPU is commemorating Drinking Water Week by inviting the public to learn about the how truly vital clean, safe water is in daily life and its role in protecting public health and the environment with a special workshop and tour of the DPU Water Treatment Plant on Tuesday, May 9. During the event, DPU water treatment professionals will teach guests about the water treatment process, infrastructure used to treat the water and how water is treated and distributed to area homes and businesses. Guests may register to attend one of the two sessions: 2 pm or 3 pm. For safety and security purposes, space is limited to 20 guests per timeslot and are on a first come, first served basis. Guest are required to wear comfortable closed-toe shoes and a provided hard hat.
This year, Drinking Water Week encourages participants to recognize and honor the critical work that water professionals accomplish around the clock to deliver quality tap water while bolstering resilience for water in the future. With water rates increases near, DPU is using this as an opportunity to educate Richmond residents by letting them get up close and personal with the infrastructure their money is helping to upgrade.
