East District Initiative Finance Cash Operations counter temporarily closed July 12 through August 1

Department of Finance customers may make payments in person at other locations, online, by phone, at drop boxes, or by mail

Effective Monday, July 12, 2021 the Finance Cash Operations counter at the East District Initiative building will be temporarily closed through August 1, 2021. The office will reopen on August 2, 2021. The payment drop box at this location will continue to be monitored and checked daily during this time. The rest of the building will observe regular hours.

During the temporary closure payments can be made via the following options:

Pay in person: bring your bill and cash, check, money order or credit card to the following locations:

  • Southside Initiative (Free Parking): 4100 Hull Street – Hours: Mon. – Fri. 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • City Hall: 900 E. Broad Street, Room 102 – Hours: Mon. – Fri. 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Pay by phone or online:

  • Personal Property/Real Estate - You can pay your personal property or real estate online or pay by phone by calling 1-866-890-5269. Electronic check/ACH transactions will incur a $.95; credit/debit card transaction fee is based on payment amount. Fees assessed by third party as outlined.
  • Admission, Lodging and Meals (online only) - You can pay your ALM taxes online.
  • Department of Public Utilities – You can pay Department of Public Utilities bills online or by pay by phone by calling 804-646-4646.

Pay at drop box locations: Bring bill and check or money order to the following locations:

  • City Hall: – 24 Hours - 900 East Broad Street - 10th Street
  • City Hall: 900 East Broad Street - Outside Room 102
  • East District Initiative: - 24 Hours -701 North 25th Street
  • Southside Initiative: 4100 Hull Street

Pay by mail: make checks payable to City of Richmond and mail check or money order to the address on the stub of your bill.

Willingness to Hold a Public Meeting for US-60 Downtown Expressway Gateway Pedestrian Improvements Project

 

RICHMOND, Va. – The City of Richmond has completed the 30 percent design for the US-60 Downtown Expressway Gateway Pedestrian Improvements Project. The project will provide improvements to the pedestrian infrastructure around Kanawha Plaza (South 9th Street, East Canal Street, South 7th Street, and East Byrd Street) in the vicinity of the downtown expressway. The proposed improvements will provide safer pedestrian access to the Plaza.

Elements of the project include: increased pedestrian accessibility, adding and widening sidewalk, reconstruction of intersection geometry, enhanced pedestrian crossings by reducing the length of the crossing and clearly marked crosswalks, installation of pedestrian signals, planting street trees, and installation of a new traffic signal at South 7th and East Byrd Streets.

If your concerns cannot be resolved, the City of Richmond is willing to hold a public hearing. Send your request with the subject, “US-60 Downtown Expressway Gateway Improvements” to the address listed above. Requests for a public hearing must be received by July 19, 2021. If it is deemed necessary to hold a public hearing, the notice of the date, time and place of the hearing will be posted.

The City of Richmond will arrange for reasonable accommodations for non-English speaking persons or those persons with visual, hearing, or mobility impairments when notified by July 19, 2021.

RICHMOND, VA – On Friday, July 2 and Saturday, July 3 the Hopkins Road Transfer Station, located at 3520 North Hopkins Road, will be closed to make asphalt repairs at the station. The transfer station will resume regular hours of operation on Monday, July 5.

Richmond ranks 7th in both Economic Potential and Human Capital & Lifestyle in Americas Cities of the Future List

Richmond was named to fDi (Foreign Direct Investment) Magazine’s 2021/22 Americas Cities of the Future list, ranking 7th in best mid-sized America’s Cities of the Future for Economic Potential and 7th in best mid-sized America’s Cities of the Future for Human Capital and Lifestyle. Rankings on the list are coveted and measured by indicators such as growth forecasts, FDI figures, and number of universities.

“Richmond being named to Americas Cities of the Future list is an outstanding achievement,” said Mayor Stoney. “Our goal has always been to come out of the pandemic as a better and stronger city than we were before, and recognition like this proves that we’re on track to do exactly that.”

“Richmond’s ranking speaks to the importance of having a talented workforce and a great community,” said Director of Economic Development Leonard Sledge. “We will continue to support creating an environment where people and the companies they choose to work for can thrive.”

Richmond is proud to have international companies such as CameraMatics, HalioDx, Swedish Match, Safelite, and ActionStep in the city. In the current fiscal year Richmond has economic development projects that total more than $409 million in capital investment and over 1,000 new jobs announced.

La Ciudad de Richmond y Performing Statistics revelan el proyecto de arte público Constelaciones de Libertad, el cual celebra y apoya las voces de la juventud

La Ciudad de Richmond y la organización cultural sin ánimo de lucro Performing Statistics, se han unido para darle a la juventud de Richmond un espacio de contemplación y reflexión en los costados del Ayuntamiento Municipal.

El proyecto multimedios de arte público Constelaciones de Libertad (Freedom Constellations), dirigido por el artista Mark Strandquist, incluye la instalación de dos estandartes enormes en los costados del Ayuntamiento que dan a las calles Marshall y Novena. En ellos figuran dos estudiantes de las Escuelas Públicas de Richmond participantes del programa RISE for Youth (Ta’Dreama McBride y Clyde Walker) y expresan la visión de los jóvenes locales, de un futuro en el cual todos ellos serán libres.

Cuando se instale la exhibición, los retratos de 160 pies (49 metros) de altura colgarán de los costados del Ayuntamiento Municipal. Cuando los visitantes apunten sus teléfonos inteligentes hacia los retratos, una animación de realidad aumentada con audio mostrará los sueños hacia el futuro de esos jóvenes líderes, mientras ellos expresan las inversiones que ellos piensan que mantendrán a sus comunidades libres, saludables y seguras. Los visitantes también podrán escuchar las palabras y voces de varios jóvenes en forma de un poema conjunto: “En un mundo sin prisiones juveniles, camino por las calles y… escucho la felicidad en la comunidad, y me siento a salvo…”.

Esta experiencia motivará a los visitantes a imaginar un mundo en el cual todos los jóvenes se sienten empoderados, libres, escuchados y esperanzados, mientras crecen rodeados del amor y apoyo que necesitan para prosperar.


La instalación de esta exhibición empezará a finales de junio. Los visitantes podrán apreciar Constelaciones de Libertad a partir de julio, y experimentarán la realidad aumentada en la esquina de las calles Marshall y Novena.

Declaraciones de los socios del proyecto:

“Debemos construir un futuro en el cual todos los jóvenes se sientan sin límites de potencial ni impedimentos por las barreras de la pobreza o el racismo sistemático”, dijo el alcalde Stoney. “Constelaciones de Libertad será un faro que brillará enormemente desde el Ayuntamiento apoyando esa visión”, añadió.

“Cubrir los costados del ayuntamiento con retratos interactivos de jóvenes que luchan por hacer de Richmond un mejor lugar es exactamente el tipo de arte público monumental que la ciudad necesita en este momento”, dice Mark Strandquist, artista principal del proyecto y director creativo de Performing Statistics. “A través de la fotografía y la realidad aumentada, Constelaciones de Libertad eleva no sólo a unas voces históricas en particular, sino a una multitud de jóvenes visionarios y poderosos de esta ciudad. Es muy importante que la ciudad brinde plataformas para que todos los jóvenes puedan hablar de sus experiencias, mostrar su liderazgo y compartir con todos nosotros sus sueños de una Richmond más justa, completa y libre. Jamás podremos crear ese futuro si no podemos imaginarlo, ilustrarlo o diseñarlo, y la juventud debe ser parte de ese proceso. Estos jóvenes líderes nos han dado un enorme regalo: nos han compartido un hermoso proyecto de una Richmond en la cual todos los jóvenes tienen el apoyo que se merecen. Espero que podamos usar esto como una oportunidad para escuchar, aprender y encontrar nuevas maneras de involucrar a los jóvenes en todos nuestros esfuerzos por hacer del mundo futuro un lugar mejor”, agregó.

“El portafolio de agencias de Servicios Humanos de la Ciudad de Richmond está dedicada a facilitar los sueños y esperanzas que incorpora Constelaciones de Libertad”, dijo Reggie Gordon, vicedirector de Servicios Humanos. “Los jóvenes de Richmond ofrecen una voz clave en nuestra conversación hacia el establecimiento de una ciudad más compasiva y espero con ansia las futuras conversaciones que esta instalación monumental de arte público inspirará”, resaltó.

“Ser parte de algo más grande que yo es simplemente extraordinario”, dijo Ta’Dreama McBride, activista juvenil y sujeto de esta instalación de arte público. “Espero que cuando ustedes vean esto, se inspiren para hacer un cambio en sus comunidades y aún más, en el mundo”, añadió.

Este proyecto ha sido posible gracias al apoyo de los Departamentos de Servicios Humanos, Servicios Sociales, Servicios Judiciales, Parques, Recreación e Instalaciones Comunitarias y la Policía, así como de Turismo de la Región de Richmond y Venture Richmond.
